Dave Thomas was born in Wales in 1950. He studied fine art in prominent Welsh and English colleges during the 1970’s. On completion of his studies, he quickly established a reputation as a gifted portrait artist and received many commissions from high profile organizations and individuals.

In the early 1980’s he travelled the world in order to progress his artistic assessment and technique. His quest lead him to Italy and not long after his arrival he was appointed Head of the Art Department of the prestigious, International School of Milan. On completion of his tenure with the acclaimed school he returned to work as a freelance artist. His success in this area saw many renowned galleries exhibiting his work.

Dave continued to travel, and his journey took him around the globe. After touching down in Australia he discovered his inspirational "paradise" in the NSW Southern Highlands town of Bowral, the spiritual home of Sir Donald Bradman. Since becoming an "Aussie", Dave has been a much sought after portrait artist obtaining a multitude of commissions from diverse sources. He has been a finalist in the "Archibald Prize" and twice a finalist in the "Doug Moran National Portrait Prize". His portraits hang in many esteemed venues across the country including Parliament House, Canberra.

Dave is particularly well known for high profile commissions for sporting entities on Australia's east coast, but his true critical acclaim lies in the portrait world.
